PanAmerican Games a Success

So say the organizers, La Organización Deportiva Panamericana (ODEPA), in spite of the sports complex not complete as the athletes arrived in the Dominican Republic, organizational problems, and tear gas to break up a crowd angry over a sold out event. Nevertheless, the US teams took home 116 gold medals. Cuban athletes earned 72. The next PanAmerican games will be in Rio de Janeiro in 2007.
