Muere en combate jefe guerrillero de las FARC en Colombia, from Reuters, reports the death of Pedro Rivera Cristancho, aka "Tiberio," responsible for arms and drug smuggling, the recruitment of child soldiers, assaults and kidnappings. He was most active on the Peruvian and Brazilian borders, where he was killed fighting.
Sorpresiva intensificación combates deja 48 muertos en Colombia, from Reuters, details the Colombian army actions in two regions of the country, leaving 48 leftist guerrillas and FARC members dead.
These actions are part of President Alvaro Uribe's initiative to put an end to the more than 40-year conflict between the rebels and the Colombian government.
