Furor over Chavez assassination call

US evangelist apologizes for Chavez remarks (Reuters) saying that "while he was criticized by U.S. political and religious leaders, he found the attention he wanted for what he said was "a growing problem which has largely been ignored." Earlier in the day he said his remarks had been misinterpreted and "take him out" could refer to kidnapping."
Robertson Suggests U.S. Kill Venezuela's Leader (NY Times): Pat Robertson, the conservative Christian broadcaster, "has set off an international firestorm by saying on his television show that the United States should kill the Venezuelan president, Hugo Chávez, a leftist whose country has the largest oil reserves outside the Middle East."
"Mr. Robertson's statements were denounced by both the State Department and by Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld. In Caracas, he was criticized by the vice president of Venezuela, and in Havana by President Fidel Castro."
