Casa de las Américas 2006

The judging committee for the 2006 Casa de las Americas Award convened in Havana, Cuba to review over 500 literary works presented to the 47th edition of the prestigious Casa de las Americas Award.
Writers from many Latin American countries entered their novels, essays and poetry, according to these rules in the categories of poetry, short stories, historical and social essays, Brazilian literature, and Caribbean literature written in English or creole.
Authors from Peru, Guyana and Brazil took top honors:Arturo Corcuera, from Peru, for his poetry A bordo del arca
Mark Mc Watt, from Guyana, for his novel Suspended Sentences, in the Caribbean literature in English category
Ricardo Rezende, from Brazil, for his novel Pisando fora da própria sombra, in the Brazilian literature category.
