Two Views On Ecotourism in the Galapagos

Galapagos islands map Despite Efforts, Some Tours Do Leave Footprints (Washington Post): "While some companies have devoted considerable time and expense to protecting the very ecosystems they market to their clients, other firms are not always so careful. And the Ecuadoran government, which has passed a series of laws designed to protect its flora and fauna, does little to enforce its own rules."

Galapagos Now It's evolutionary! (Washington Post): "Most visitors to the Galapagos retreat to their cruise ships at night, but new rules allow the intrepid to camp on the islands Charles Darwin made famous. Until now, visitors have not been allowed to camp on the islands, whose popularity with ecotourists is soaring even as threats mount to the unique and delicate ecosystem."
