Colombia Wants Tourism

Monday May 8, 2006
Hot destination: Colombia (The Christian Science Monitor): "Tucked into the lush, dense jungles high in the mountains of Colombia's Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Ciudad Perdida holds the ruins of one of the largest and oldest pre-Columbian settlements in the Americas. But drug-related violence and general lawlessness - not to mention 40 years of war - have kept all but the most intrepid travelers away.

The government of President Alvaro Uribe is intent on changing that. The president has taken a hard line against leftist rebels, and there has been a 78 percent drop in kidnappings since Mr. Uribe took office in 2002. Looking to cash in on that, Mr. Uribe's government has begun to promote Colombia as one of the world's hottest new tourist destinations.

Colombia recently launched a campaign with the slogan, "Colombia is Passion." The goal is to change the country's image abroad by inviting media, celebrities, and politicians to experience the country's positive aspects first hand."

Explore Colombia and its Coastal Regions, where Santa Marta is the gateway to the Ciudad Perdida, or Lost City. View the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta from space.

Absolutely LOVED COLOMBIA. Recently enjoyed the rural area of Huila. Agro-tourism, eco-tourism, cultural interactivity, coffee, rice, fish farms, fantastic people, super clean small towns and villages, beautiful music, dance and much more. TRAVELSAPIEN loved all of it and encourage visitors to come and enjoy Colombian’s celebrate all that is good. In a heartbeat I would return. When in Garzon stop by a small bar on the park called Jean Pierre! The best broasted chicken (Pollo Loco) you will find. The friendly people are passionate about their land, music and culture. They wish to share and oh my, the fruit, the food! Yes to Colombia!

I am a North-American/Puerto Rican who has been traveling to Colombia since 1999. I truly love this passionate country. I love it so much that I bought a home in the town of Obando Valle in 2007. I plan on retiring here, when my time comes. At this time, I am trying to open the eyes to the world and invite you to check out my website. I am trying to organize Ecotourism to “El Norte Valle of Colombia”. I have the ‘pulse’ of the people, the mayor and the inspector of police. They want me and encourage me on a daily basis to bring this much needed industry to their region. And me being an experienced and seasoned traveler to this region, am looking forward to guide many of you to this uninhibited ’safe’ region of Colombia. I’ve surrounded myself, these past 10 years, with the right people who applaud and admire my love for this country, particularly, this beautiful region of Colombia. I want to be the “Steve Perillo” of Ecotourism in Colombia. So “come on down” to the land of Passion, Colombia.
