Easter Island Statues Need Restoration
Thursday September 21, 2006
Chile's Easter Island Moais Statues Threatened by Corrosion (Santiago Times): "The iconic Moais statues of Easter Island are deteriorating at an alarming rate, and experts fear that without a large scale restoration effort, these emblematic figures could be irreparably damaged and eventually lost.
Centuries of exposure to the elements has greatly corroded the Moais, wearing away centimeters of surface stone, and without preventative efforts, the statues will eventually lose their distinctive characteristics."
Explore Easter Island, perhaps with one of these tours.
