Spa Tours in Che Guevara's Footsteps

Sunday October 22, 2006
Banos area South America offers inspired transformation to the spa traveler (MSNBC.com): Retracing Che Guevara's travels, not by motorcycle, but by spa from the Porteño Massage in the Four Seasons Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina to the Renacer Spa Center in La Colonia Tovar, Venezuela via:
  • hostería Las Balsas near Bariloche with snorkeling in a lake in Nahuel Huapí National Park
  • Puritama, near San Pedro de Atacama, Chile with a visit to El Tatio Geyser
  • spa in Hotel Monasterio, Cuzco
  • Unu Spa in Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel
  • Luna Runtun, an adventure spa near Baños in the Sangay National Park

The author concludes: "Yet for all my trip’s admitted pampering, there was an equal if not greater measure of spiritual and sensory recalibration that even Guevara himself might have condoned."

Retracing Che’s travels by “Spa” is almost too funny to believe. I was sure this was a parody of some kind…a sick joke. Che’s life and work and even death, was noble and well intentioned. Although flawed, it should be respected. This little stupidity is exactly the kind of thing he was fighting. I know WHY you’re doing it. My only question would be SHOULD YOU be doing it?
