Derby Day - Clasico del Derby of Vina del Mar, Chile

Sunday February 4, 2007
Chile’s long-standing relationship with all things British led to the founding of the Valparaíso Sporting Club in 1882 to found and promote horse racing. The first Derby Day, based on the British race, was held on October 22, 1885. Now it is held annually, in Viña del Mar on the first Sunday in February and is Chile’s second greatest national celebration

Residents and summer vacationers enjoy the horse racing, the beaches and the casino as well as many fine restaurants in what is called the Garden City.
