Guyanese Tourism Numbers Increasing

Tourism being pushed - Prashad (Stabroek News): Guyanese "Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Manniram Prashad said that the tourism sector recorded significant growth in 2006 with arrivals during the Christmas season surpassing those of previous years...visitors from the United States accounted for 50 per cent of the total, while those from the Caribbean formed 25 per cent followed by Canada with 13 per cent."

Guyana is the site of a number of international sports events, and an increasingly popular site for ecological tourism and birding.

In related news, Buddy's 250-room hotel launched (Stabroek News). The hotel and resort, built near the Guyana National Stadium, is the largest in the country and is expected to apply for a casino gaming license.
