Machu Picchu Updates

Friday July 27, 2007
Machu Picchu Machu Picchu has always been a prime tourist destination in Peru, and with its inclusion as a New 7 Wonder of the World, Machu Picchu Prepares for Tourist Influx (living in Peru). Preparations for managing the increased volume of visitors suggest "two ways in which the sacred Inca Citadel will be protected is by controlling the flow of people that enter the city and by setting up determined viewpoints where people will be able to appreciate the city."

Prices are not expected to rise. Already the number of people trekking the Inca Trail is regulated.

In other news, UNESCO Removes Machu Picchu, Peru from Endangered List (Living in Peru): "Director of the National Culture Institute (INC), Cecilia Bákula stated that UNESCO took the decision to take Machu Picchu off the list in a meeting in New Zealand. Now that observations have been lifted, Bákula stated that UNESCO has acknowledged Peru for its conservation of the monument. Machu Picchu has been declared a Cultural and Natural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO."
