Wai Wai Tribe of Guyana to Protect Guyanese Amazon Rain Forest

Amazon group bans loggers and miners (AP) : "An indigenous group in Guyana, backed by government decree and a U.S.-based conservation organization, has banned miners and loggers from its section of the Amazon jungle and pledged to pursue an economic strategy based on ecotourism, research and traditional crafts."
The Wai Wai tribe, which has been living on the land in question for centuries, will be trained as forest rangers and will help with research into the wildlife and plant species of Guyana and the rainforest.
