Ollantaytambo, PeruNew Life in Ancient Peru (nytimes.com): "FOR many tourists to Peru, Ollantaytambo is simply a tongue-twisting stop on the train route from Cuzco through the Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu. Most visitors ride in on a morning package tour, only to head out by afternoon. But some visitors are spending the night — and discovering underappreciated ruins, a growing range of outdoor activities, newly opened cafes and a destination hotel that are turning the sleepy village into more than a one-track town."

The author gives a brief descriptions of places to eat and stay, plus links to the ancient fortress and a tour operator.
