When planning and budgeting for a trip one of the most frustrating things is figuring out what fees you need to pay to enter and leave a country. Countries in South America do not make it easy as it depends on what country you are from and what in airport you are arriving.

It's a cost no one wants to add to their holiday budget but in most cases South American countries have added them in a response to their citizens being charged for travelling abroad so it's difficult to get upset over them. The best thing to do is understand your options and plan for these charges so you aren't fuming in an airport that you have to pay something you weren't expecting.

Check out our overview of Visas and Reciprocity Fees in South America and you can prepare for these unexpected costs.
