
December is a very special month in South America as much of the region remains Catholic since the Spanish colonization of most of the countries. If you are traveling during this time it is difficult not to stumble upon some celebration that relates to Christmas.
If you celebrate Christmas you may find things are done a bit differently down here during the holidays. Many families celebrate on Christmas Eve and stay up until midnight. It can be a bit unsettling if you hear firecrackers go off in the middle of the night but it is quite normal in many areas.
