Huaca Pucllana

While Peru is often known as the home to the Inca Empire with Machu Picchu there were many empires before the Inca and pre-Colombian Peru is fascinating and very well preserved.

However, holidays only last so long and it is impossible to travel all throughout Peru to see these sites. Fortunately if you have a few days in Lima before jetting off to Machu Picchu you can see some great archaeological sites with the city borders and in neighboring communities.

If you are interested in deepening your understanding of Peru's history be sure to read our guide to Uncovering Pre-Columbian Peru Without Leaving Lima.
