Proposed Entrance Fee Hike for Machu Picchu Under Review

Friday February 23, 2007
Machu Picchu Peru set to increase entrance to Machu Picchu by 150% (Living in Peru): "The entry price for Peru's most renowned tourist attraction, Machu Picchu, is slated to increase from US$40 to US$100, representing an increase of 150%" but only for foreign tourists.

"The additional revenue will be used to make much needed improvements in and around Machu Picchu, as well as increasing the impact on the local economy."

Machu Picchu is the most visited tourist destination in Peru, with good reason. The ruins stand atop a steep mountain overlooking the Urubamba river far below, and raise questions archaeologists and historians are still asking.
