Puerto Madryn has become a popular destination for visitors
to the wildlife on Peninsula Valdes as well as the sheltered
beaches on Golfo Nuevo. It was founded by Welsh settlers in 1886.

This monument is dedicated to the Tehuelche Indians who might have stood on this promontory and watched newcomers enter Golfo Nuevo.
