My walk though the cemetery was so relaxing I did it twice more during my brief stay in Buenos Aires. I saw statues of soldiers ] with swords drawn and tributes to animal lovers homes for foundlings mothers fathers and bosses. I saw beauty on a grand scale and simple little resting places but all displaying love and respect.
If the Argentines have an obsession with death it isn't ghoulish in the least. It seems to be an all-encompassing respect for those who have completed their path through the objective side of this universe. As such I think it instills in the locals a strong sense of respect for others for age and for anyone's accomplishments in life. Perhaps this is why the porteños (residents of Buenos Aires) seem just a little more loving more in touch with others a little more human than people in some other big cities.
