South America's Last Frontier

Argentine Chaco

From , former About.com Guide

The Argentina portion of the Chaco is more open savannahs and thorn forests and covers the states of Chaco Formosa eastern portions of Salta Santiago del Estero and the Gran Chaco. This area of the Gran Chaco has been put to more uses than elsewhere but the brutal summer heat and risky agricultural scene are still major hindrances.

So even though three of the four countries that share the Gran Chaco have been able to put some of the land to use the Chaco remains under-inhabited and unused which makes it a wonderful destination for travelers hardy enough to withstand the climate the lack of amenities and the difficulties of getting there in order to enjoy the wildlife.

How long will it be that the Gran Chaco can retain the title of the Last Frontier in South America?
