The first show down comes between Rob M and Ethan. They fall together with Ethan hitting both the water first and his head against a log. He gets up and continues the challenge. Jenna and Richard meet next. She falls, but takes him into the water with her. Tom loses his balance and falls, but retains his grip on the log and pulls himself back up. He later meets Ethan at the challenge and both fall into the water. Rob and Colby battle, with Colby falling first. (These physical struggles are probably the scenes requiring parental guidance.)

Chapera team decides to let Rob M, the fastest and most secure, get all the remaining flags. They jump off their beams and Rob meets Kathy in the middle. She promptly sits on the beam, but she is no match for Rob who goes on to bring the last Chapera flag home.

Mogo Mogo loses and faces its first Tribal Council. The tribes head back to their camps. Rob M is pleased with himself, saying he’s stronger then the others. They enjoy a celebratory drink while Mogo Mogo team heads home to deal with their loss.

And the politicking begins in earnest. Shii-Ann Huang says that the game is really on as Colby and Ethan plot to get rid of Richard, whom Colby calls the cancer in their tribe. They agree to let Richard think they are going to vote Ethan off, as had already been agreed on, and then talk to Kathy Vavrick-O'Brien. She talks with the other women, who are surprised at the switch. Jerri wants to vote Colby off, in revenge for the way he treated her in Australia. Richard and Colby take a swim, then Kathy tells Richard of the plot against him. “Colby must go,” declares Richard. How dare he plot to get rid of him? Colby, Ethan and Lex van den Berghe talk. Kathy isn’t sure how she’ll vote. Should she rely on her gut? On loyalty? Or common sense?

Mogo Mogo tribe arrives at Tribal Council where host Jeff Probst questions them. Ethan states he’s happy to have a new chance. Kathy says this is a totally different game from the previous one she played and when asked, says that she’ll vote to get the “power players out.” Richard jokingly admits to knowing he has a target on his back. Colby admits to having had a hard afternoon and says someone is going to get duped when they cut out the cancer.

Jeff reads the votes. By a 6-1 vote, Richard, the very first Sole Survivor, is voted out. He calls out, “I’ve been bamboozled!” but his comments, after his earlier arrogance, are surprisingly graceful.

Jeff reminds the castaways that it doesn’t matter how good you are, you’re always at risk.

Be sure to watch the next exciting episode, when:

  • Sensing that she had been personally attacked, Shii Ann confronts Colby, only to be subjected to a lecture.
  • One All-Star suddenly rises to dominance in providing for the tribe. Will this be Rupert or Ethan?
  • Tension builds for one castaway and culminates in an explosive reaction. Sue loses her temper and yells at Jeff. What about?

With Richard gone, the leadership of Mogo Mogo tribe is up for grabs. Who will get it? Will Ethan and Colby battle for supremacy now? Or will one of the women assume command? Cast your vote in the Episode 5 Poll. While you're there, tell us: were you surprised by the disbanding of the losing tribe?
