Port Lockroy
"Port Lockroy was established on 16 February 1944 as part of Operation Tabarin, the UK military operation to establish meteorological and reconnaissance stations in Antarctica. The station was thus the first permanent British Antarctic station in Antarctica.
The station was active till 1962 and is thus the oldest British building in the Peninsula. Now it is the most visited site in Antarctica by tourists" with a museum, gift shop and post office
Besides serving the tourists some research is done on the affect that tourists have on penguins,
as there is a large colony on the island, some even nesting in the doorway."
