Deception Island
The natural harbor, actually a caldera of a volcano that imploded, is ringed by sheer cliffs. Seen here is Neptune's Window.
The beach is littered with ruins of former whaling and research stations, plus colonies of Gentoo and Chinstrap penguins. The seals can be aggressive, so be cautious.
Go ashore in your swim suit (under your foul weather gear) to bask in the geothermal waters on the shore of Pendulum Bay. Simmer part of your body while the rest congeals.
Some visitors brave a dip in the frigid waters of the bay after basking in the "hot tub."
