Bolivia in Pictures Sucre - Casa de la Libertad
The Casa de la Libertad is Bolivia's premiere historical site, for it was here, in a classroom of the Jesuit Universidad Mayor, Real y Pontificia de San Francisco Xavier de Chuquisaca, founded in 1624, that members of the Deliberating Assembly proclaimed their independence from Spain. Paintings of Simon Bolivar and Antonio Jose de Sucre, for whom the city is named, have prominent positions on the wall.
This document, the Declaration of Independence, is displayed for all Bolivians to treasure. It was signed on on August 6, 1825.
These golden balconies overlook the former Assembly Hall of the university. Read about Sucre, Bolivia - City of Four Names More Bolivia in Pictures All about Bolivia Photos displayed with the kind permission of Peter and Jackie Main
