Torres del Paine Torres del Paine Torres del Paine Click for larger views

Torres del Paine is one of Chile's most spectacular national parks. Located in southern Patagonia, it is a region of wild peaks, rushing rivers, icebergs, waterfalls, wildlife and varied flora. It is popular with adventure seekers, ecologists, scientists, environmentalists and photographers. Fishing, trekking, climbing, kayaking, hiking and nature walks are popular activities. Camping is allowed within the park.

To get there, you can fly from Santiago or other Chilean and Argentine cities to Punta Arenas or Puerto Natales and from there by road. You could also take the four day ferry trip from Puerto Montt to Puerto Natales.

The park is open all year, but weather is obviously a factor and the spring and summer months are less cold.

Orient yourself with this excellent Map and Photo Tour.

The Torres del Paine National Park began in 1959 as Lake Grey National Park and in 1978 was declared a UNESCO Biospheric Reserve.

Torres del Paine National Park "Torres del Paine ("Towers of Paine") National Park takes its name from the three "towers" shown on the right. The park can be visited as a day trip from Puerto Natales, but the two-hour ride along ripiado roads made me glad I had decided to spend a couple of nights in the park before heading back." Torres de Paine "Several Chileans advised me to go all the way to Torres del Paine National Park, and promised I would not be disappointed. They were right - hiking around the plains, glaciers, lakes and wildlife was a great opportunity to get closer to overwhelming Chilean nature. This area has the fame of being cold year-round, but when I walked here I though it was not so bad as long as you were properly clothed. I rented a tent in Puerto Natales and off I went!" Torres del Paine Mountain Bike and Hike Millions of years ago, Patagonia was populated by strange animals. One of these was the Milodon, a sort of bear that stood on its hind legs supported by its thick tail. The Milodon lumbered about the extraordinary natural setting that is today Torres del Paine National Park. The park, located at the foot of jagged peaks crowned with eternal snow, encompasses a fanciful landscape of lakes, rivers, waterfalls and forests. Thousands of years have passed and the Milodon's faint tracks serve today as beautiful and inspiring trails for the cyclist. Come feel the power of Patagonia's wind in your face and admire the guanacos in this singular and grandiose landscape. Full support expeditions from Pared Sur Expediciones. Don't miss the photos.
