Blue Heron

Blue Heron

The blue heron is one of many herons living along the shore lines and marshy areas of the Galapagos. Herons have slender bodies, long necks, long pointed bills and long legs and long toes. They stand at water's edge, waiting patiently for prey, and then grab quickly. They live in colonies, nesting in trees, and laying many eggs in sucessive layings. Larger chicks will eat the smaller ones when there is an insufficient food supply.
