The Middle Chaco is home to nomadic Indians and Mennonite
communities around Filadelfia. The Mennonites are a strict
Protestant sect, speaking only German, with their own
co-operative farming system, schools and hospitals. They
came from Canada, the Soviet Union and the Ukraine.
