Sacsayhuamán

Sacsayhuaman

Saqsaywaman with all the variations in spelling means Satisfied Falcon in Quechua. Many of the blocks from this huge fortification were carried away to build houses in Cuzco but enough remains to grasp the original size.

Within walking distance of Cuzco, these ruins are now less than 20% of what they were before the Spaniards destroyed the fortress after defeating Manco Inca here.
