Ecuador - Mitad del Mundo
Photo of the Week - 11/11/2005
This monument, near Quito, Ecuador marks the equator. Here you can straddle the equator with one foot in the Northern Hemisphere and with the other one on the Southern Hemisphere and ascend to the balcony for panoramic views of the area. The globe on the top of the pyramid represents your location. There is a small ethnic museum, representing all the people of Ecuador, located inside the base of monument which also honors all the Ecuadorians who died in war. The buildings around the monument, not seen in this image, a typical Ecuadorian village with a plaza, a church, a cockfight ring, homes and stores.
