Photo of the Week - 12/03/2006

Laguna Verde

Laguna Verde is a second day stop on the trek up Pico Bolivar, Venezuela's highest mountain, located in the Sierra Nevada National Park. At 5007 m or 16523 ft, Pico Bolivar is named for Simon Bolivar.

Laguna Verde at 4000 m, 13200 ft, is named for its brilliant emerald color and is located at the base of the impressive Humboldt (4992 m, 16473 ft) and Bonplandt Peaks (4890 m, 16137 ft). Most treks begin from Merida allowing time to acclimatize to the altitude and change in temperature.
