Photo of the Week - 09/16/2007

Patagonian Cavy

Resembling large hares or small antelopes, the Patagonian Cavy lives in the grasslands of Argentine Patagonia. Large rodents, they are related to the guinea pig and can weigh up to 35 pounds and be 2½ feet in length.

Due to the introduction of the European hare, their numbers are declining, but they are not yet listed as endangered.
