Copacabana Beach at Dawn
Photo of the Week - 12/30/2007

Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana beach is quiet and still at dawn. During the day, the preparations for the giant New Year's festivities will continue until dark, when the beach will be crowded with merrymakers.
The Ano Novo celebrations are capped off by the religious ceremonies honoring Iemanjá, the Goddess of the Water, when flowers, gifts, perfume and rice which are set into little boats and cast adrift into the sea, or else tossed directly into the water.
Find out more about Festa de Iemanjá and New Year's Eve in Rio de Janeiro, and enjoy more images of Copacabana and the Beaches of Rio.
