Esta representa al Primer Comandante en Jefe del Ejército de Chile, con la cabeza descubierta, y es obra del escultor H. Román L., fue inaugurada por el Presidente José Joaquín Prieto en 1864. Durante su gobierno se creó: La Aurora de Chile, la primera bandera nacional, el reglamento institucional, la Constitución de 1812, y el primer escudo nacional. Se fundó el Instituto Nacional y la Biblioteca Nacional. J.M. Carrera participó en las guerras de la independencia: sorpresa de Yerbas Buenas, San Carlos ocupación de Concepción, toma de Talcahuano, sitio de Chillan, campañas de Quirihue y de Cauquenes, campaña de Itata, combate de El Roble y Trocoyán.

This bare-headed equestrian statue of the first Commander in Chief of the Chilean Army is the work of sculptor H. Román L and was unveiled in 1864 by President José Joaquín Prieto. General José Miguel Carrera created the first national flag and shield, regulations, the 1812 Constitution, the National Institute and the National Library. He took part in multiple military operations and battles of the Wars of Independence.
