General Juan Mackenna (1771-1814)

General Juan Mackenna

General Juan Mackenna, fundador de los ingenieros militares. Este monumento en piedra bronce es obra de Girón González y fue inaugurado el 10/10/1963. Juan Mackenna fue un general irlandés, gobernador de Osorno y General del Ejército de Chile. Este monumento fue erigido por suscripción popular a iniciativa de la Sociedad Chilena de Historia y Geografía. A un costado está grabado "Batalla del Membrillar".

This monument honors General Juan Mackenna, an Irish soldier who became the Governor of Osorno and a general in the Chilean Army. He created the military Corps of Engineers. Made of stone and bronze, this monument was funded by popular subscription by the Chilean Society of History and Geography, created by Girón González and inaugurated on October 10, 1963. A plaque commemorates his involvement in the Battle of Membrillar.
