Esta es una obra alegórica de Enrique Rodó (1872-1918) escultor uruguayo. La obra representa la materia y el espíritu. Calibán es la materia, mira hacia el suelo y tiene sobre sus hombros a Ariel, el espíritu, que se eleva al cielo.

Uruguayan sculptor Enrique Rodó (1872-1918) created this allegorical statue to represent the earthly and the spiritual side of nature. Caliban, the earthy, looks at the ground as he balances Ariel, the spirit, on his shoulders, as she reaches for the sky.
