Catedral de San Francisco en Castro

El color de su interior es el color natural del mañío, no ha sido barnizada. Tiene tres arcos en la entrada similares a los de La Divina Providencia en Santiago. Nuestro guía nos cuenta que para el terremoto de 1960 una de sus torres quedó dañada y desplomada con peligro de caerse. En Castro se organizó una MINGA (ver crónica La Minga en Tenaún), con los vecinos, artesanos, maestros de voluntarios lograron volverla a su posición original.

En esta iglesia existe un Cristo tallado en alerce hace 700 años (la madera del alerce tenía 3000 años); además se usaron otras maderas nativas como el raulí, coigüe, y ciprés.

The interior wood of the church has colored naturally over the years without varnishing. One of the towers was damaged in the earthquake of 1960, and was in danger of collapse. A group of volunteers composed of neighbors, artisans, and others joined in a Minga and made repairs. See Una Minga en Tenaún.

The figure of Christ was carved 700 years ago from larch (already 3000 years old) and other local woods.
