Churches of Chiloé -
Nuestra Señora de Loreto de Achao

Across from Dalcahue on the Isla de Quinchao, the second largest island of the Chiloé archipelago, two churches are worth visiting. The first is Nuestra Señora de Loreto de Achao, called the "jewel of the Chilote wooden churches."

The oldest Jesuit church on the island was built between 1730 and 1767 using native woods, and named a national monument in 1951. At one time it had large eaves to keep off the rain. It was raining the day these photos were taken, but Sr. Fisk was unable to tour the interior.
