Information for PR Professionals
What you need to know about us:
- About is the 7th-largest Web property, with more than 16 million
unique users per month. MediaMetrix, the Internet rating service that
supplied these figures, also reports that About's Travel Channel is the largest
travel content site (as opposed to an e-commerce site) on the Web.
- About's travel channel ranks number 1 out of all travel content sites on
the Internet, delivering more unique visitors than Fodor's, Frommer's and
Lonely Planet combined.
In addition to providing a large audience of Internet-savvy travelers, About
and South America for Visitors have several advantages over newspapers and magazines:
- Editorial content is "evergreen." With a newspaper
or magazine, an article has a shelf life of a day, a week, or a
month at most. On About's South America for Visitors site, articles and other
content remain online indefinitely and can be updated as necessary. (Thanks to search engines, Europe for
Visitors articles from as far back as 1998 continue to draw new readers
every week.)
- Readers can click through to your site. South America for Visitors
articles normally include links to related Web sites, which makes it easy
for readers to find the information they need without picking up the
telephone or writing a letter.
- Articles can be longer, with unlimited color photos. A typical
newspaper feature is 500-1,000 words long, with one or at most two photos.
At South America for Visitors, an article can be as long as the topic requires,
with a color photo on every page.
Topics covered by South America for Visitors:
I write about countries, transportation services, and tourist attractions
throughout South America. In addition to covering the big-name tourist
destinations, I'm especially interested in creating new articles about some of the
lesser well-known, off-the-beaten-path areas.
Finally, I occasionally review South American travel guides, books of
travel narrative, and maps. See my book
reviews for examples.
