| Episode 11: Pride Goeth Before a Fall! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hubris. Arrogance. Excessive Pride. The old saying was proved right once again when
another strong personality, thinking himself too necessary, was voted out of
Jacaré.
While the Alliance of Four: Alex, Heidi, Jenna and Rob sunbathed and lazed about
the camp, jesting that their day was too booked with idleness to help with the
chores, the three on the "outs," Butch, Christy and Matt toiled.
Resentment grew fast.
In the reward challenge, in which each contestant received US $500 to bid on food
items hidden under a basket, all the tribal members but Christy successfully bid
on cheesecake, steak and potatoes, breakfast of eggs and bacon, a cheeseburger and
fries, even some manioc.
In the second part of the auction, the tribe used their remaining money to outbid
the others on a letter from home. Christy won, having the most money to spend.
She blinked back tears as she looked into her envelope, and Jenna burst into
jealous tears.
The auctioneer took pity on her and allowed her to spend the last of her money on a
letter from her parents. Jenna had earlier commented that she is exceptionally close to her
parents, and is worried about her mother's well being as she battles a brain tumor. The news
from home was good, though, as Jenna learned that her mother's tumor had shrunk by 50%.
She shared happy tears with Heidi and the support of the Alliance.
Christy, however, took her letter to read privately, and was cheered by the support
of a long-time friend. She commented that she could trust friends at home, but no one in
camp.
For the Immunity Challenge, each contestant had to fill out a confidential form,
answering such questions as "Which tribal member doens't deserve to live?"; "Who would you trust with your life?"
and others. While the answers were tallied, the tribal members plotted. The Alliance of
Four intended to vote Matt off. Meanwhile, Rob was busy brokering his vote to both sides.
He confessed to Matt his previous behavior, lies and machinations and promised from
now on to be straight with him. Matt gave his word not to betray Rob, and agreed to
vote Alex off. Christy and talked with Matt and agreed about Alex, but could they
trust Rob?
Good question.
At Tribal Council, the contestant with the most right answers would win the Immunity Necklace,
and after the following questions:
Questioned how they felt after 30 days in the Amazon, the contestants agreed they were
good for another 10 days. The voting was silent, except for Matt and Alex who each
voted for the other. The vote was Matt 3, Alex 4.
Alex, the strongest of the Alliance of Four, was out. What happens next, with the Proud and
Boastful Alliance down to Heidi and Jenna? Could Rob recover his position? Would he want to?
Or in these final episodes, are we finally down to each contestant against all others?
Episode 12 teaser:
Jenna and Rob fight it out, and who will win the Reward Challenge and a visit from
a loved one?
Who'll be the next contestant to be voted off? Man or woman?
