You might think people would learn from other's mistakes. But oh, no, after the last three contestants were voted off after displaying an excess of arrogance, you might think Heidi would have toned down her statements at the last Tribal Council.

You might also think that after a fire burned the fire and sleeping shelter while the tribal members were away for the Reward Challenge, people might openly blame Butch for his obsessive gathering and stacking wood around camp. You might think this would get him voted off, particularly when Rob groaned at being made the assistant wood fetcher. Butch laughed his complaints away, calling himself a crazy nut about firewood.

You could also listen to Jenna's moaning and crying about having tonsillitis and listen to her plea to be voted off so she could end her misery. You could have heard Rob sneer at her whining and think she'd be the one to be voted off. Heidi commiserated, trying to drum up sympathy for Jenna with the men, but she also privately expected she would be the one to be voted out this time. Neither helped with the daily chores.

But oh, no....

Matt was the clear winner this episode, winning both the Reward Challenge and the Immunity Challenge, and thus immunity. The Reward was worth winning: a brand new red Saturn Ion with a trunkload of food and drink for a tailgate party. The challenge involved portions of previous challenges and a preview of the Immunity challenge with coded messages, locked gates, rope swings and a race to gather five of the same colored flags. Matt won handily, and after winning the reward, he invited everyone in to bask in the car's air conditioning. He also asked if he could share the food with everyone. When told no, he chose Rob, fulfilling a promise he'd made early on. The two lit up a portable barbeque, then cooked and feasted on hot dogs, chicken and hamburgers with all the trimmings.

While they were building their fire, back at the Jacaré camp, the fire got loose (accidentally or set by a Survivor crew member to spark new trauma for the contestants?) and destroyed the fire shelter, the sleeping shelter and all personal possessions but those set aside earlier by Heidi.

Dismay, consternation, guilt: emotions shared by the tribal members at the loss of their things, but only one person, Rob, openly blamed Butch. Rain made the night particularly unpleasant, and Heidi and Jenna again made no effort to help the next morning when the men rebuilt the shelters, saying why bother when they would be the next to leave. Heidi wants Butch to go. Matt and Rob cemented their alliance, discussing the way their skills, Rob's game playing and Matt's survival skills, complemented each other. They planned to be the Final Two. Rob, of course, has also told Butch the same thing.

The Immunity Challenge was another physical trial for dispirited contestants, but Matt, using focus, concentration and physical stamina, overcame the five rope challenges and won the Immunity Necklace, now slightly charred.

During the day before the Tribal Council, Butch continued to cut wood, Jenna continued to cry, saying she was sick, uncomfortable and in pain. Heidi spoke to the men about voting Jenna off as a relief, but at the Council that night, even though it was raining, Jenna seemd livelier. When asked what basis she would use for her vote, Jenna said "Loyalty." Heidi stated she'd played the game so hard, considered herself the master planner and was in control, with the others scared of her. Her statements, coming after her belief that she'd be the next one to go home, were confusing. Matt said he felt allegiance to his alliance, but in the final three, it would be every man for himself.

In the vote, Heidi and Jenna voted for Rob. The three men voted for Heidi. She was the next to join the jury, who even though soaked by the rain, looked clean, well-fed and comfortable.
