Through this site, we'll visit the countries of South America: each one different and
inviting in its own way; we'll sample the food and drink, listen to the music,
learn the culture and venture out on some of the most thrilling adventures to be had anywhere on earth.
We'll stay in primitive shacks, elegant resorts, luxurious hotels, and dine on anything from a simple snack
to the most exquisite cuisine.
And sightseeing. Did I mention sightseeing? Who can't identify Sugar Loaf and
Guanabara Bay in Rio de Janeiro? But there's more--much more. Think of the most vivid
descriptive phrases in the dictionary. Pile one lush adjective on top of another. Be
outrageous -- and you still won't be able to describe the natural wonders of South America.
I'll be your virtual tour guide. And to assure you that I have some qualifications to do that let me give you a
few background facts. I was born in Ecuador and lived for many years in Chile. My family and I
traveled extensively throughout South America and while I have favorites I'll try not to be
overly biased about places and things. Educated in Chile, and the US I took my degree in Latin American Affairs
and while my Portuguese is rusty my Spanish is fluent and
I even remember a few words in Quechua.
Ready?
Bien venidos! Seja bem vindo! Welcome!
South America! Forget your classes in geography, the dry lists of imports and exports,
the historical dates of this battle or that conquest. Instead, conjure up visions of
steamy jungles, rainforests, snowy mountain peaks, exotic animal life, fabulous beaches,
ancient civilizations, deserts, wild fjords, and give in to the irresistible urge to
explore and experience it personally.
