“The Mole” continues with the fourth episode still in Chile, but crossing the Andes via International Route 7 into Argentina. This pass is also known as the Paso de Libertadores for the historical crossings during the South American wars of independence from Spain.

Crossing into Argentina near Cerro Aconcagua, near the Penitentes ski resort, the players, now down by two to eight, face some physical challenges as they compete in their first mission.

When the Spanish conquistadores conquered Peru and other areas, they used Inca porters to carry their gold across the Andes to the sea for transport to Spain. Now, in memory of those porters, the players are divided into two teams of four: the Selfish and the Selfless. Each team is instructed to carry as many five pound "gold" bricks as they can up a steep path to the finish line within the time limit. There is an exemption from execution awaiting the team that finishes first. The Selfish team packs lightly, with the exemption as their goal. The Selfless teams packs as much as they can carry, for each brick carried to the finish is worth money.

Although one member of the Selfish team complains, it is a member of the Selfless team that suffers from the high altitude. No doubt the Incas had coca to chew on to alleviate the high altitude and cold, but the players are on their own. Though it notmally takes a few days to Adjust to the Altitude at elevations above 2424 m. (8000 ft), the players feel the symptoms of soroche or puno at 7200 ft.

The Selfish team finishes first with a total of 23 bricks, and the Selfless team staggers to the finish line within seconds of the time limit with 34 bricks. The Selfish team is upset to learn that the exception applies to only one person. On the way down the mountain, the players on the Selfless team is overcome with soroche symptoms and transported by ambulance for medical care. He is later released with instuctions to rest and stay warm. He misses the communal dinner.

At dinner that night in Uspallata, host Jon Kelley gathers up all the journals where the players have kept their notes about each other and the game. Some have kept desultory notes, others have written copiously. Jon leaves that table and comes back later with the announcement that they will now play the "Who Said What?" game. Each correct answer adds money to the game pot.

Following dinner and the game, the players leave the warmth behind and drive to an isolated spot, where Jon asks who will sacrifice their journal. Only one player responds, and hands over his book. All the others are placed aside where they are burned, to the horror and angst of the player who kept voluminous notes.

The next night, following dinner which everyone enjoyed with Argentine wine, the players take the dreaded quiz without their notes. Another player is executed and leaves the game.

Now down to seven, the remaining players wonder what will happen next. And where? Who is The Mole?
