Peru's Amazonia

Peru's Amazonia

ArtToday.com
Amazonia is the geographical area surrounding the Amazon river and its tributaries. This vast area includes portions of Peru, Venezuela, Colombia, Bolivia, Suriname, French Guiana, Guyana and a huge chunk of Brazil. Orient yourself with this interactive map from Expedia.

The exact source was unknown for many years until a National Geographic expediton used the Global Positioning System (GPS) navigational equipment to pinpoint the source as "a trickle of water coming off a cliff high in the Peruvian Andes." See their map.

From the Andes, the rivers flow through the southern portion of Peru at the eastern base of the Peruvian Andes. The Manu River basin is known for the rain forest and the wide variety of wildlife.
