There are several highlights on everyone's tour in the salar and the surrounding altiplano:
  • Sol de Manana
  • the lagoons - Colorada and Verde in particular
  • Isla de Pesca
  • Colchani and the Salt Hotel

    Sol de Manana or Morning Sun area, a region of bubbling mud baths and thermal hot springs that leave the surface deeply fissured.

    These Thermal Springs and Mud Holes are a popular stop for travelers to warm themselves.

    Along with the thermal activity, water bubbles up from underground rivers in pools called Ojos de Sal or Salt Eyes.

    Be careful where you walk. During the rainy season, December to March, the playas, or beach-like surface may be covered with brine to depths of 25 cm. During the dry season, the brine evaporates just below the surface.

    Your driver might take you to the train cemetery, where out-of-service engines and cars are a startling sight on the altiplano.
