As the city grows, it expands up the surrounding hillsides. At one time, the poor occupied the higher elevations, but newer housing developments bring the more affluent to the steep slopes.
Nevertheless, the most affluent sections of the city are lower down, southweat of the Prado. Condos and high rises dot the center of town.
