Option 1: Rio Grande to Machuca
This is a six hour trek, climbing up the altiplano from 2,700 m (8,860 ft) to an altitude of 3,400 m (11,800 ft) at the isolated village of
Machuca, a regular stopover for ancient llama caravans traveling the Inca Trail. Along the way you'll see examples of tradtitional terrace agriculture, impressive scenery and wildlife.
Option 2: San Pedro to Tatio Geyser, Caspana and Calama
With a pre-dawn departure, you'll have breakfast at the geysers to see
the
geothermal field with boiling mud and columns of steam. You'll continue on to the villages of
Caspana, Chiu-Chiu, the Pukara de Lasana, Loa River petroghyphs and the
Inca Coya Lake before arrival in
Calama.
