Santiago is a huge city, sprawling through the older barrios to the newer residential and commercial areas, but you'll find the centro easily accessible for walking.

The subway, or metro lines cross the area and busses run by the dozens along the Alameda.

You won't want to miss a trip to Santiago's other prominent Cerro San Cristobal, the highest point in the city. After a ride in the funicular, you'll be rewarded, on a clear day or early morning, with a panoramic view of the city, seen here, and the Andes beyond. San Cristobal is part of Parque Metropolitano, Santiago's largest park. The zoo is here.

There is far more to see in Santiago than just these suggestions. Enjoy the distinct flavors of the barrios, restaurants, parks, nightlife and the city streets.

For more walking tours of Santiago, join guest author Clarence Fisk on his Santiago de Chile: Son Solo 15 Kilometros De Historia, a photographic journey along the Alameda, and De Árboles y un Canal Photo Gallery to view the many varieties of trees and plantings in Santiago's streets.

Enjoy your walking tour of Santiago. Buen viaje!
