On the way to the park, view the red two-story Casa Manso de Velasco, another historic, colonial building. Constructed in the 1730's, it was the home of governor José Antonio Manso de Velasco, and is now the headquarters of the Republic's Senate. Only the grounds are open to the public.
You might want to detour a bit to the southeast to visit the Palacio de Bellas Artes, the Fine Arts and Contemporary Museums which house permanent collections of international artists. The Contemporary Museum features displays paintings, sculptures, and other works by well-known Latin American artists. The building dates from 1910 and is a neo-classical building with a glass dome.
