El Chiflon del Diablo en Lota, Chile

An account of guest author Clarence Fisk's visit to Lota, near Concepción, south of Santiago, to see the town, a fabulous park, and a coal mine, now open to visitors. The mine is called "El Chiflón del Diablo", or the Devil's Whistle, for the wind whistling through the tunnels. The text is accompanied by a photo gallery, with descritpions in English.

"This report is the result of approximately 15 hour birding in the Concepcion area...The period of the year is late spring, when most birds are relatively quiet because of breeding activity. Weather conditions were excellent: dry and sunny, actually a bit warmer than usual (maxima of 25-30 degrees Celsius)."
