The teams race back to the airport to take a LAN domestic flight to Calama, in the Atacama desert.

The airport is named El Loa, for the U shaped river that starts high in the Andes and loops its way through Calama to the Pacific.

Calama has grown into a tourist gateway to the Atacama's attractions: desert oases, archaeological ruins, hot springs, open pit mine at Chuquicamata, high-altitude villages and the mighty Atacama itself.
